![]() .
On the last day of the year 2006, Tracy McGrady shined to lead the Rockets to a 111-109 home win over the Memphis Grizzlies. Memphis shot a better percentage, but Houston’s ability to force turnovers and convert on them was the major deciding factor.
.
For Memphis, Mike Miller and Pau Gasol had good games, especially Miller. Miller finished with 21 points and 6 rebounds while Mike Miller finished with 32 points and 4 rebounds on 12-17 shooting. Miller also drilled 7 three’s on 10 attempts. Chucky Atkins had a very productive game off the bench as well, finishing with 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 8 assists. Backup big man Stromile Swift also came to play, as he showed the Rockets that he could play (Houston was Swift’s previous team, in which is was dealt back to Memphis in an off-season deal this past summer), and he finished with a near double-double: 13 points and 9 rebounds. Rookie Alexander Johnson also contributed on the glass, grabbing 8 boards.
.
For the beloved and banged up Rockets, Tracy McGrady came to play tonight. McGrady played like his old self tonight, doing everything. He shot 50% from the field, drained 5 three’s, scored 38 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, and dished 3 assists. Houston really needs to start seeing more games like this from T-Mac in order for Houston to be successful with Yao out of the lineup. Juwan Howard and Luther Head also gave Houston a big lift offensively. Howard finished with 22 points and 6 rebounds while Head came off the bench to pour in 18 points, hitting 5 of 6 from downtown. Mt. Mutombo came to play as well, as he grabbed 11 rebounds and sent back 4 shots in the game.
